Summary
Situated on Pershore Road, the University of Birmingham’s 115,000 sq ft Vita development is split into three tiered towers of four, five and six storeys.
As well as offering student accommodation, the buildings include bookable private dining facilities, study rooms, a gaming room, a cinema and a gym.
Upon completion of the construction of the buildings, Morgan Sindall requested the services of Plastic Surgeon’s finishers to carry out repairs in the brand-new living complex.
Covering approximately 180 accommodation plots, the team were enlisted to repair the usual chips and scratches that occur during the construction phase of a large-scale project. This job was no different, with the team carrying out repairs on internal doors and a fair amount of glass polishing.
Results
The size of the project required two finishers to be on site at any one time, although this fluctuated between one to four depending on the type of job being carried out.
One of the main challenges encountered was working towards the extremely tight deadline, as the job had to be completed in time for students to move in during the second week of August.
To overcome this, the team of skilled professionals put in a substantial amount of weekend shifts, amounting to an impressive 60 days’ worth of work being completed in just three months and ultimately, completing the job ahead of schedule.
In total the team completed more than 1,400 individual repairs with the majority taking place to windows and internal doors within the development.
What did the client think?
Having completed the last three to four Morgan Sindall accommodation blocks across Birmingham and Wolverhampton, the client gave great feedback on the team’s efforts and even recommended them to two other companies on the site.
